9th European Greenways Award 2019
The European Greenways Association (EGWA) announces the call for candidacies for the 9th European Greenways Award (EGA) 2019, organised by EGWA in co-operation with the in co-operation with the Vidzeme Tourism Association.
Deadline: Thursday 6 June 2019
The objective is to promote examples of best practice and to support their replication on other greenways all over Europe. The European Greenways Award will only be granted to greenways under the Lille Declaration, as well as to initiatives already in existence.
This biennial award will recognise examples of greenway best practice in three categories:
- Excellence awards
In this category the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes will be awarded to three exemplary greenways that show the best integration of the various characteristics that define greenways (Art. 1 of Regulations) and which also demonstrate specific strengths which, in the opinion of the jury, make them exemplary. - Exemplary initiatives
A 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize will be awarded to exemplary initiatives carried out in relation to greenways. This category is open to any activity related to greenways in its broadest sense: (…)
- C) Special Award, (*) Exemplary innovative action / product to improve the info and experience for tourist;
A single award will be granted to recompense initiatives and/or products to inform visitors and improve their experience using new technologies, linked to greenways and aimed at either one or more of these trails. (…)

– The awards ceremony will be held on 5 September 2019, in Vidzeme Region, Latvia.

OUR WAY – Greenways in Podkarpackie Region
Podkarpackie Region participates in the international project called “OUR WAY – PreservatiOn and promotion of cUltural and natural heRitage through GreenWAYs”, co-financed by the INTERREG Europe programme.
OUR WAY project aims to contribute to the conserving, protecting, promoting and developing natural and cultural heritage in Europe using Greenways by means of the improvement of policy instruments related to the cultural and natural quality of the territories involved, including tools for their governance and developing specific measures for their promotion and preservation.
The project intends to improve coordination among the different key actors:
- to develop governance systems to manage Greenways;
- to identify models and good practices for the protection and maintenance of Greenways;
- to identify financial instruments and funding for Greenways and
- to promote Greenways and product development.
The interregional cooperation is essential in order to identify, exchange and transfer of practices among regions and, what is more important to plan and prepare specific Action Plans to integrate lessons learned from the interregional cooperation in regional policies programmes.
Partnership is composed by 6 regions with different levels at developing, managing and promoting natural and cultural heritage in and around Greenways as well as the European Greenways Association, as an advisory partner,

⇒ Chamber of Commerce and Industry-Vratsa, Bulgaria;
⇒ Northern and Western Regional Assembly, Ireland;
⇒ Podkarpackie Region, Poland;
⇒ Department Council of Herault, France;
⇒ Hajdu-Bihar Country Government, Hungary, and
⇒ European Greenways Association, Belgium. (Advisory partner)
Main activities include: analysis of environmental policy studies, identification of best practices and establishment of a stakeholders working group, selection of good practices to be transferred/exchanged in the project regions, design of regional plans for action, implementation of the action plan in each region, exchange of results among partners, stakeholders, beneficiaries and others.
As a final result, six national policies have to be improved in connection to 18 good practices identified as well as six action plans to be elaborated, the implementation of which shall contribute to the utilization of the natural and cultural heritage of each of the regions included in the project using greenways.

OUR WAY during VI European Greenways Conference, Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain, 4-5.04.2019
VI European Greenways Conference
4 – 5th April 2019 in Vitoria-Gasteiz (Spain, Basque Country) VI European Greenways Conference will be held on “Greenways, much more than sustainable infrastructure for tourism development”. The Organizers are: Basquetour, the European Greenways Association and the Spanish Railways Foundation.

Meeting of the members and new Board of the Association
20.11.2018 in Krakow we organized the meeting of members of the Greenways Poland Association. Main goal of the meeting was exchange of information and good-practices as well as shaping the priorities and activities for 2019. We also elected new Board of the Association that consists of: Dominika Zaręba (Chair) and Member of the Management Board – Zbigniew Pacholik and Anna Woźniak-Lubaś. New members of the Supervisory Commitee are: Krzysztof Pucek (Head), Bogdan Kasperek and Edward Kutyła. Association will also move its headquarters to Kraków.
