About us

Greenways Poland Association was founded in 2014 in Nałęczów by initiators and animators of greenway trails in Poland in order to promote, support development and popularize greenways principles, including sustainable tourism, especially ecotourism and heritage tourism.

The philosopy, methodology and standards of developing greenways were implemented and adopted to Polish conditions in 2001-2011 by the Polish Environmental Partnerhip Foundation as a part of the Central & Eastern European Greenways initiative. The initial project was based on US experiences with special inspiration from William Moody and Krystyna Wolniakowski. Development of Greenways in Poland was made thanks to the honorary support from The Rockefeller Brothers Fund, and other donours of the Environmental Partnership for Central Europe program, Environmental Partnership Association and the Polish Environmental Partnership Foundation, such as: Doen Foundation, Trust for Mutual Understanding, C. S. Mott Foundation, Stefan Batory Foundation, Toyota Fund for Europe, State Street Foundation, National Fund for Nature Protection and Water Management, Financial Mechanism EOG and the Norwegian Funds, Civic Initiatives Fund and many others.

Greenways Poland Association is supporting member of the European Greenways Association.
